Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner, who died this week at age 91, was an iconic bundle of contradictions: A champion of the sexual revolution who reduced countless women to sex objects on the pages of his magazine a publishing industry pioneer who may be best known as the doddering lothario at the center of a reality show. In light of the news that Playboy is shutting down its flagship magazine for the rest of 2020, and that future plans for the print publication are uncertain, we're republishing this story on what it was like for two feminists to work there.
